Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Sitting out series finale
Abreu is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Abreu will hit the bench for the second day in a row while the Yankees send another lefty (Carlos Rodon) to the hill. Platoon mate Rob Refsnyder will replace Abreu as the Red Sox's starting right field.

Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Hitting bench vs. southpaw
Mayer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
With southpaw Carlos Rodon taking the hill for the Yankees, the left-handed-hitting Mayer will retreat to the bench after going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run in the first two contests of the series. Abraham Toro will replace Mayer at third base.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Sends loud message he's ready
Anthony went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run, four RBI and an additional run scored for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.
Anthony delivered a message that he's ready for the major leagues in the eighth inning when he swatted a 497-foot grand slam that left the bat at a velocity of 115.6 mph. It was the longest home run measured by Statcast at any level in 2025 and the fifth longest since 2015. There isn't much left for Boston's top prospect to prove, and the Red Sox's disjointed performance this season suggests they could use him. There's a logjam of outfielders, but Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic proposed a scenario where Anthony is promoted and replaces struggling second baseman Kristian Campbell (minus-6 OAA, .229 xBA). The proposed realignment would involve Jarren Duran moving from left field to center, and Ceddanne Rafaela sharing second base with David Hamilton.

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Swats homer in victory
Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, two additional runs and a double in a 10-7 win against the Yankees on Saturday.
Gonzalez tacked the final two runs onto the line of Yankees starter Ryan Yarbrough with a blast to left field in the fourth inning. It was the first long ball of the season for Gonzalez, who went deep six times over 216 plate appearances with Boston last year. Despite the lack of power prior to Saturday, the utility man has been handy with the bat, as he's slashing .329/.368/.486 with 12 RBI, 13 runs and three stolen bases through 76 plate appearances.

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Plates five runs Saturday
Story went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and five RBI in a 10-7 win against the Yankees on Saturday.
Story produced a bases-clearing double in the third inning, and he added a pair of insurance runs with a single in the ninth. The five RBI marked a season high for the veteran shortstop and equaled the number of runs he had plated over his previous 15 games combined. This was also Story's first three-hit performance since April 21, and he's still slashing a modest .222/.268/.331 on the season.

Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Posts 10th save
Chapman earned a save against the Yankees on Saturday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning.
Chapman was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead against the team he spent over six seasons with earlier in his career. The veteran closer needed just 11 pitches to get the job done, firing nine strikes and retiring the side in order. Chapman is in the midst of a throwback campaign at 37 years of age, as he holds a 1.73 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 34:9 K:BB through 26 innings. The fireballer is 10-for-11 in save chances and has given up just one earned run over his past 10 outings.

Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Nabs win in uneven performance
Crochet (6-4) earned the win against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over six innings.
The five earned runs were a season-worst mark for Crochet, but he still managed to walk away with a victory thanks to a potent Boston offense. Much of the damage against the southpaw was inflicted by Austin Wells, who tagged Crochet for a three-run homer in the second inning and a run-scoring double in the fourth. Despite the damage to his ERA, Crochet impressed by inducing 15 whiffs and racking up nine punchouts, including three strikeouts of Aaron Judge. Crochet has fanned 32 batters across his past three starts and leads the majors with 110 punchouts on the season.

Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Not progressing
Houck (elbow) continues to play catch but has yet to throw off a mound, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Houck has been throwing for over two weeks but has yet to progress past playing catch. Given that he'll require a rehab assignment, he's likely to be sidelined until at least early July.

Red Sox's Justin Slaten: Still not throwing
Slaten (shoulder) has yet to play catch since being placed on the injured list Sunday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Slaten was diagnosed with shoulder fatigue when he was placed on the injured list, so the issue didn't appear to be overly serious. However, he's likely to be sidelined until at least late June given his lack of progress.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Bullpen pushed back
Crawford (knee) experienced more wrist pain Saturday and will have his bullpen session moved to next week, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Crawford is rehabbing from a knee injury but more recently had wrist pain emerge. Testing didn't reveal structural damage, and he was originally scheduled to throw at some point during the team's weekend series against the Yankees. His rehab now appears to be in a bit of a holding pattern, and he shouldn't be expected back from the IL in the near future.

Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Red Sox recalled Winckowski (elbow) from Triple-A Worcester and transferred him to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Winckowski has spent most of the season with Triple-A Worcester, and he landed on the minor-league injured list due to elbow inflammation in mid-May. He'll now be sidelined until at least after the All-Star break.

Red Sox's Cooper Criswell: Shuttled back to Worchester
Criswell was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.
Criswell has bounced back and forth between Boston and Worcester this season and made two appearances during his most recent stint in the majors. He threw three innings Friday against the Yankees, so the Red Sox will option him and get a fresh arm for their bullpen.

Red Sox's Robert Stock: Back in majors

Stock has appeared in one game for the Red Sox this season but was designated for assignment shortly thereafter. He's back in the majors and should serve as bullpen depth.

Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Homers in loss
Devers went 1-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Yankees.
Devers brought the Red Sox a bit closer with a two-run shot in the seventh inning, but that's where an attempted comeback from an early 7-0 deficit ended. For Devers, the homer was his first in 13 games and extended a hit streak to five games. He was one of the hottest hitters in MLB for much of May, but the designated hitter entered Friday's contest with a .195 average (8-for-41) over the previous 11 games. Devers has 13 home runs and 56 RBI through 65 games this season.

Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Cracks first MLB home run
Mayer went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Yankees.
The Red Sox were out of this game early, falling behind 7-0, but Mayer's fifth-inning homer -- a no-doubter -- sparked a rally that turned a blowout into a close game. It was Mayer's first MLB homer, which came one game after he logged is first RBI as a major leaguer.

Red Sox's Walker Buehler: Crushed early in loss
Buehler (4-4) took the loss against the Yankees on Friday, allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts over two innings.
Buehler surrendered five runs on two homers in the first inning and needed 67 pitches to get through just two frames, marking his shortest outing of the season. The 30-year-old has now yielded 10 earned runs over his past two starts, pushing his ERA from 3.95 to 5.18. He also owns a 1.44 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB across 48.2 innings and is slated for a home matchup with the Rays next week.
