Athletics' Austin Wynns: Swats first homer with new club
Wynns went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-4 win over the Royals.
The veteran catcher turned on a Michael Wacha two-seamer in the second inning, giving Wynns his fourth long ball of the season and his first as a member of the A's. He came into 2025 with a career OPS of .642 and a career high of just four homers, but the 34-year-old now sports a stunning .354/.404/.667 slash line in 52 plate appearances this season between the Reds and A's. Wynns has been alternating starts with Willie MacIver over the last four games, an arrangement that could continue while Shea Langeliers (oblique) remains sidelined.

Athletics' Mason Miller: Shaky in non-save spot
Miller coughed up three runs on one hit and two walks in the ninth inning of Friday's 6-4 win over the Royals. He struck out one.
The A's closer hadn't pitched since Sunday, so manager Mark Kotsay elected to get Miller some work in a 6-1 game. The flamethrowing righty had trouble finding the plate, tossing only 14 of 25 pitches for strikes, but he displayed his usual elite velocity as 16 of those pitches reached triple digits, including a 100.7 mph fastball on his final offering of the night. It was the first time he'd issued multiple walks since May 17, but Miller's been struggling overall since the beginning of last month, stumbling to an 8.78 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB in his last 13.1 innings while blowing two of his last six save chances.

Athletics' Luis Severino: Stingy in second win
Severino (2-6) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over 7.2 innings in a 6-4 victory over the Royals. He struck out only one.
The veteran righty gave up an RBI double to Salvador Perez in the first inning but shut down Kansas City from there, coaxing plenty of weak contact to compensate for the fact that he managed only one swinging strike all night among his 104 pitches (62 total strikes). It was an encouraging bounce-back effort from Severino after he's been tagged for 14 runs (13 earned) in 11.1 innings over his prior two starts, and he'll take a 4.47 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 61:29 K:BB through 90.2 frames on the season into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Astros.

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Back in lineup Friday
Wilson (hamstring) is in the Athletics' starting lineup Friday and is batting second against the Royals.
Wilson missed the final two games of the Athletics' series against the Angels earlier this week and had the off day Thursday, so he's back in action after getting three days of rest due to a tight hamstring. Wilson is slashing .366/.402/.520 with eight home runs, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored and five stolen bases across 272 plate appearances this season.

Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Undergoing surgery, likely OFS
Hoglund (hip) is undergoing surgery Friday and is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season, Hoglund's agent announced.
Hoglund was placed on the 15-day injured list June 2 due to a left hip impingement, and the injury will require surgery. The procedure is expected to end his 2025 season, but the expectation is that he'll make a full recovery for the 2026 campaign. In six starts with the A's this season, Hoglund logged a 6.40 ERA and a 23:11 K:BB across 32.1 innings. His long-term absence should mean more starting opportunities for Mitch Spence or Jacob Lopez.

Athletics' Jack Perkins: Unfazed by Pacific Coast League
Perkins has 0.79 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB in 11.1 innings over his last two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas.
For the season, Perkins has a 3.23 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 61:15 K:BB in 39 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He hasn't struck out fewer than seven batters in any of his last six starts and could be summoned to the majors at some point in the coming weeks.

Athletics' Colby Thomas: Thriving at Triple-A
Thomas is slashing .301/.361/.568 with 16 home runs and three steals in 61 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Thomas played 73 games at Triple-A last year, and he has cut his strikeout rate from 30.3 percent in 2024 to 26.3 percent this year while upping his hard-hit rate from 36.4 percent to 40.5 percent. Thomas isn't on the 40-man roster and is best suited to play corner outfield, so he may need an injury or a trade to get a look in the coming weeks, even though it seems like his bat is ready for a new challenge.

Athletics' J.T. Ginn: Makes second rehab start
Ginn (quadriceps) struck out five batters and allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks across 3.1 innings in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Ginn tossed 72 pitches (42 strikes) in his second rehab outing with Las Vegas since landing on the 15-day injured list May 20 due to a strained right quad. The Athletics haven't confirmed Ginn's next steps, but the right-hander could be ready to return from the IL as soon as Monday versus the Astros. Jacob Lopez or Mitch Spence are most at risk of falling out of the rotation when Ginn returns.

Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Out with Grade 2 strain
Athletics director of sports medicine Brian Schulman said June 2 that Andujar is recovering from a Grade 2 right oblique strain, which will keep him out for "a couple weeks, if not longer," MLB.com reports.
Andujar landed on the 10-day injured list June 2 after suffering the oblique injury on a swing a day earlier. He's eligible to come off the IL this weekend, but Andujar doesn't appear to have resumed baseball activities yet and could be sidelined at least until late June or early July.

Athletics' JP Sears: Strikes out nine in no-decision
Sears allowed two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Angels. He struck out nine.
Sears was dominant early, allowing just two singles through five scoreless frames. However, he'd give up back-to-back base hits to start the sixth, both of whom would come around to score after the A's turned to the bullpen. After going six or more innings in three of his first four starts this season, Sears has gone seven outings without recording a quality start. Overall, the left-hander has a 5-5 record with a 5.08 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 58:14 K:BB across 14 starts (72.2 innings) this season. Sears is currently lined up to face the Astros at home in his next outing.

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Four hits, two homers in loss
Rooker went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three total RBI and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Angels.
Rooker extended the A's lead to 2-0 in the third inning with a 412-foot solo shot off Kyle Hendricks before blasting a two-run shot off Ryan Zeferjahn in the seventh. The 30-year-old Rooker had gone 10 games without a home run coming into Wednesday's contest, though he still went 22-for-59 (.373) with a 1.075 OPS in his last 15 games. Overall, Rooker's slashing .276/.342/.498 with 15 homers, 41 RBI and 44 runs scored through 307 plate appearances this season.

Athletics' Carlos Duran: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Athletics outrighted Duran to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Duran is no longer on the Athletics' 40-man roster but will stick around in the organization. The right-handed reliever allowed three runs while recording just one out in his major-league debut last month.

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: On bench for series finale
Clarke is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Seth Brown will get the nod in center field in the series finale while Clarke sits for the just the second time in the last 13 games. The 25-year-old has made multiple highlight-reel plays on defense since getting his first call-up to the big leagues May 23, but Clarke is struggling to provide much fantasy utility, despite playing regularly. Aside from chipping in a home run and three stolen bases in his first 17 games, Clarke has slashed just .200/.228/.273 with a 54.4 percent strikeout rate across 57 plate appearances.

Athletics' Willie MacIver: Getting regular run behind plate
MacIver will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Angels.
MacIver will pick up his fifth start in seven games and looks poised to operate as the Athletics' primary backstop until Shea Langeliers (oblique) is cleared to return from the injured list. Since getting his first MLB call-up May 23, MacIver has gone 5-for-24 (.208 average) with a 1:7 BB:K, one double, one stolen base, two runs and two RBI through eight big-league games.

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Remains out Wednesday
Wilson (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Angels.
Wilson was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to left hamstring tightness and will miss a second straight start. The Athletics are off Thursday, so Wilson will hope to re-enter the lineup Friday in Kansas City. Max Schuemann will again fill in at shortstop and bat ninth.

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Resting on getaway day
Kurtz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
The Angels are sending right-hander Kyle Hendricks to the bump for the series finale, but the left-handed-hitting Kurtz will nonetheless bow out of the lineup for the first time since returning from the injured list Monday. He made starts at designated hitter and first base in the first two contests of the series in Anaheim, going 1-for-8 with a double.
