  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Moves to 60-day IL

The Tigers transferred Jobe (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday. Jobe is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the season, so the Tigers will move him to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man spot for Matt Gage, who was selected from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. A timeline for Jobe's return will likely surface following his procedure, though he almost certainly won't be cleared to pitch until late 2026 at the earliest.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Requires Tommy John surgery

Jobe (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jobe landed on the 15-day injured list at the end of May due to a right flexor strain, though further evaluation determined that he's dealing with damage to his UCL and will require surgery. This means his 2025 season is finished after posting a 4.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 49 innings (10 starts), and the timing of the operation will likely cause him to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 campaign.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: To IL with flexor strain

Jobe was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a Grade 1 flexor strain, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow), who is coming off a dominant rehab start for Triple-A Toledo, is the likely replacement in the rotation. Jobe had a 5.28 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 25:17 K:BB in 29 innings over his last six starts.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Wins with quality start

Jobe (4-0) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over Toronto. Jobe worked through three scoreless innings before the Blue Jays plated a pair of runs in the fourth. It was his second quality start of the year and first since April 12 in Minnesota. Jobe tossed 52 of 90 pitches for strikes and generated 12 whiffs. He produced 14 in his last outing, which was the first time he hit double-digits in his MLB career. Jobe now owns a 4.12 ERA with a 32:22 K:BB through eight starts. He's projected to face Cleveland at home for his next outing.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Lit up in no-decision

Jobe allowed six runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 3.2 innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Wednesday. Jobe was initially slated to start Tuesday, but his outing was pushed back one day due to a rainout. The rookie right-hander got off on the wrong foot against Colorado when Ryan McMahon tagged him for a two-run home run in the first inning, and Jobe gave up another two-run shot -- this time to Michael Toglia -- in the third. He was allowed to pitched into the fourth frame but got the hook after giving up another run on two hits in that inning. Jobe hadn't given up more than three runs in a start this season prior to Wednesday, so this was easily his worst appearance of the campaign. He'll look to bounce back in his next trip to the mound, which tentatively lines up to come against Boston next week.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Labors after long layoff

Jobe didn't factor in the decision Wednesday against the Astros after giving up three runs on four hits and four walks across four-plus innings. He struck out four. Making his first start since April 18, Jobe allowed a leadoff homer to Jeremy Pena in the opening frame but followed up with three straight scoreless innings. The right-hander returned for the fifth but was pulled after giving up a walk, a single and a two-run double to the first three batters he faced. The extended break between starts wasn't due to any sort of injury, but rather, an attempt to build in some extra rest for the 22-year-old rookie. Jobe has now issued three-plus walks in three of his five starts this year, though his overall line is still decent with a 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB across 24 innings.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Collects second win

Jobe (2-0) earned the win against the Royals on Friday, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters across five innings. Back-to-back doubles from Bobby Witt and Vinnie Pasquantino in the first inning put Jobe in an early 1-0 hole, but he only allowed another three hits over the next four frames while his offense helped him out by putting up five runs on Royals ace Cole Ragans. After a rough start to the season, the 22-year-old Jobe has now allowed one run over 11 innings while collecting back-to-back wins across his last two starts. He'll have plenty of momentum heading into his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled for next Friday against Baltimore.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Issues three walks in no-decision

Jobe did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-3 win against the White Sox, pitching five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks. He struck out four. The rookie right-hander looked sharper in this 86-pitch outing but generated just six whiffs against a subpar Chicago lineup. Jobe managed to limit hard contact, as all four hits yielded were singles, but the walks are looking problematic to start the season for the 22-year-old. Over his first nine innings, Jobe has a 5.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with a 7:7 K:BB. He is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Twins in Minnesota next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Sharper in second spring start

Jobe allowed one run on two hits across three innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. He struck out three. Jobe was fine in his spring debut Tuesday, allowing two runs over two innings while striking out one, but he was a bit better Sunday as he dialed up the strikeouts and allowed only one run on a solo homer. The 22-year-old righty appears to be on track to earn a rotation spot out of camp, and while there may be some ups and downs during his first full MLB campaign, Jobe does offer considerable upside on the mound.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Allows two runs in spring debut

Jobe allowed two runs on a hit and a walk across two innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He struck out one. Making his spring debut, Jobe allowed a two-run home run to Heston Kjerstad but otherwise managed to navigate a tough Baltimore lineup playing plenty of regulars. The 22-year-old righty made his brief MLB debut toward the end of the 2024 regular season and is now hoping to make Detroit's 2025 rotation right out of camp. Jobe stands a good chance to do just that if he has a productive spring, which makes the top prospect a popular breakout candidate heading into the season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Adds two pitches to repertoire

Jobe added a curveball and a two-seam fastball to his pitch mix during the offseason with the hope of improving his strikeout rate in 2025, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The 22-year-old righty is hoping to make use of a six-pitch repertoire during the upcoming season, as he was already throwing a four-seam fastball, a cutter, a changeup and a sweeper. Though he reached the big leagues in September and earned a spot in the Tigers' postseason bullpen, Jobe saw his strikeout rate fall to 25.6 percent over 91.2 innings across three minor-league stops in 2024, down all the way from 32.6 percent during the 2023 season. Jobe noted he particularly struggled with missing bats on two-strike counts, and he's hoping that adding more diversity to his arsenal will aid him in putting more batters away. After making his MLB debut as a reliever, Jobe will get the chance to compete for a rotation spot with Detroit in spring training and is expecting to throw at least 130 innings in his rookie campaign.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Officially added to roster

The Tigers selected Jobe's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. One of the top pitching prospects in the game, Jobe has collected a 2.36 ERA and 96:45 K:BB over 91.2 innings covering 21 starts across three minor-league levels in 2024. The plan is to use Jobe in the bullpen for the time being, with bulk relief being a possibility given how often the Tigers have been using openers.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Vaults to Triple-A

The Tigers promoted Jobe from Double-A Erie to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. Jobe will likely get two or three more starts under his belt at the Triple-A level this season with the hope of making enough of an impression down the stretch to merit consideration for a spot in Detroit's 2025 Opening Day rotation. Though he missed nearly six weeks in May and June due to a hamstring injury, the 2024 campaign has been a successful one thus far for Jobe, who turned in a sparkling 1.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 81:38 K:BB across 73.2 innings with Erie.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Walk rate up at Double-A

Jobe has walked nine batters and struck out eight while registering a 3.72 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in his last two starts for Double-A Erie. It's a surprising stretch for Jobe, as he'd walked 11 batters over his previous nine starts (36 innings). The Tigers could maintain Jobe's rookie eligibility for 2025 (to try for a prospect promotion incentive draft pick) by waiting until at least Aug. 16 to promote him while keeping him under 50 innings. However, given that he's still at Double-A and coming off two of his worst starts of the season, there's a chance he's not up at all this season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Ready for rehab start

Jobe (hamstring) will make a rehab start with High-A Michigan on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jobe has been sidelined since early May with a left hamstring strain but has progressed to the point that he is ready to test things out in a game setting. The top prospect will eventually return to Double-A Erie, where he held a 2.16 ERA and 24:10 K:BB in 16.2 innings prior to suffering the injury.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Lands on Double-A IL

Jobe was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Erie on Thursday with a left hamstring strain. Jobe had to exit Wednesday's start with the injury and now will be forced to the sideline for a bit. The top prospect has put up a 2.16 ERA and 24:10 K:BB over 16.2 innings covering five starts this season with Erie. Jobe, 21, could push to debut with the Tigers this year, but he's facing workload limitations as he has yet to reach 80 innings in a professional season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Exits start with apparent leg injury

Jobe was removed in the fourth inning of his start Wednesday with Double-A Erie due to an apparent left leg injury, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. According to Beck, Jobe was removed in the middle of an at-bat after he was spotted flexing his left leg and grabbing around his hamstring following a pitch. The Tigers should provide more details on the nature of his injury in the days to come. One of the organization's top pitching prospects, Jobe had posted a 2.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB in 13.2 innings over his first four starts prior to Wednesday.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Tigers reassigned Jobe to minor-league camp Friday. The move comes as no surprise, as Jobe was never a likely bet to make Detroit's Opening Day roster with just once appearance above High-A under his belt. However, the 21-year-old could make his MLB debut sometime in 2024 with a strong showing in the upper minors.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Invited to big-league camp

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Jobe received an invitation to major-league spring training. Fellow top prospects Jace Jung and Ty Madden, among others, will join Jobe in big-league camp. Jobe, 21, was dominant across four minor-league levels in 2023, posting a 2.81 ERA and 84:6 K:BB over 64 innings. The young right-hander has a relatively limited track record in pro ball in part due to injury, but he could push to debut in 2024 if things break right.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Assigned to High-A

Jobe was promoted to High-A West Michigan on Tuesday after striking out seven in 3.2 innings in his final start for Single-A Lakeland. His most recent outing was one of Jobe's very best as a pro, as he showcased the type of high-end stuff that led the Tigers to select him third overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. With so many prominent pitching prospects graduating to the majors this season, the path is clear for Jobe to establish himself as one of the top arms in the minors over the final weeks of the minor-league season.
