Giants' Luis Matos: Sent down to minors
The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The move comes one day after Matos cranked a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Marlins. He's slashed only .167/.211/.361 in 24 games this season and will look to get into a groove with regular at-bats at Sacramento.

Giants' Luis Matos: Homers, steals base in win
Matos went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Marlins.
Matos drew his first start since Monday and broke out of an 0-for-18 slump by giving the Giants a 4-0 lead with a 390-foot homer in the fourth inning. He later added a single and a stolen base in the ninth. Despite the encouraging performance, the 23-year-old owns an ugly .167/.211/.361 slash with four home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored and two steals across 76 plate appearances on the season.

Giants' Luis Matos: Scratched Friday
Matos was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics due to right shoulder discomfort, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The severity of Matos' injury remains unknown, though it's enough to warrant holding him out of action Friday. The Giants should provide some more details in the near future, and in the meantime, David Villar will take over as the designated hitter and bat seventh.

Giants' Luis Matos: Accounts for both of team's runs
Matos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Cubs on Monday.
The only runs San Francisco managed to score in the loss came on Matos' two-run homer in the fourth inning. The long ball was his second in his last three games, a stretch during which he's gone 4-for-9. Matos has started to get more opportunities of late, as he's started four of the Giants' past five contests.

Giants' Luis Matos: Launches solo shot Saturday
Matos went 1-for-1 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.

Matos has struggled at the plate this season and has gone 2-for-28 over his last nine games (including Saturday). Even with his slow start to the season, Matos should still see starts in the outfield in a platoon with Mike Yastrzemski.

Giants' Luis Matos: Cracks first homer of 2025
Matos went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Astros.

Matos cracked a 395-foot solo shot to left field in the second frame, which landed just above the yellow line and was initially ruled a double. Giants' Luis Matos: Remains on track for platoon role
Matos is expected to make the Opening Day roster and form a platoon with Mike Yastrzemski in right field, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Matos has been impressive during Cactus League play, hitting .358 with two home runs, 11 RBI and two steals across 53 at-bats. The 23-year-old recorded a .213/.237/.347 slash line over 45 regular-season games in the 2024 campaign, and he struggled to stay settled at the plate, finishing with a 40.1 percent chase rate. However, Matos could be in line for an increased role in 2025 after bouncing between the big leagues and Triple-A Sacramento last season. "He is getting better pitches to hit, and that's always going to be, for him, the most important thing," manager Bob Melvin said. "Not chasing too much. ...We've seen him get a little bit deeper in counts. I think that is a progression for him."

Giants' Luis Matos: Could win platoon role
Matos is the front-runner for the fourth outfielder role and is likely to platoon with Mike Yastrzemski, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Matos is hitting .308 (8-for-26) with a home run in ten games this spring. Matos would be in the weak side of the platoon and face lefties. He hit 14 home runs with a .779 OPS at Triple-A last season, but he struggled with a .584 OPS in 45 games in the majors. At age 23, he may finally be finding his footing against big-league pitching this spring, though there's no guarantee that carries over to the regular season.

He's struck out multiple times in all three appearances he's made since his return to the majors and won't have a shot at a bigger role unless injuries in front of him arise.
