  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Shifted to 60-day injured list

The Brewers transferred Woodruff (shoulder/elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jacob Misiorowski, who has been called up to make his major-league debut Thursday. It does not change Woodruff's timetable, as he has already missed 60-plus days and recently had a setback on his rehab assignment when he was struck in the pitching elbow by a comebacker. Woodruff hasn't resumed throwing and will need a couple more rehab starts before being considered for the Brewers' rotation.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Pulled off rehab assignment

Woodruff was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Woodruff took a line drive off his elbow during his most recent rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. Although it seems he escaped the incident without suffering any structural damage, the Brewers will pause his minor-league assignment while he recovers from his latest setback. The 32-year-old righty began his rehab assignment in mid-April as the final step in his recovery from October 2023 shoulder surgery, but ankle tendinitis and now a bruised elbow have extended his stay on the injured list significantly. Woodruff owns a 2.11 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 38.1 frames across his nine rehab outings, and it remains unknown when he'll make his season debut for the Brewers.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Hit by comebacker during rehab game

Woodruff (ankle) was removed from his rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday after getting hit on the right arm by a line drive, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Woodruff first began his minor-league assignment April 12 while working his way back from October 2023 shoulder surgery, but his rehab was extended in mid-May, when he experienced right ankle tendinitis. He resumed the assignment May 21, and Tuesday's outing was expected the 32-year-old's final start in the minors before being activated for his season debut next week. However, those plans may be in jeopardy now that the concern about his health has shifted back to his arm. He's slated to receive X-rays in Milwaukee on Wednesday, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, at which point the Brewers may have a clearer idea regarding his timeline to return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Hits seven innings in rehab start

Woodruff (ankle) struck out six and allowed one unearned run on five hits and no walks over seven innings in his rehab start Wednesday with High-A Wisconsin.

Woodruff took the hill Wednesday for his eighth rehab start and his second since resuming his assignment May 21 after a brief shutdown due to right ankle tendinitis. The right-hander's surgically repaired shoulder doesn't seem to be much of a concern at this stage, and after an efficient 74-pitch performance Wednesday, his ankle issue seemingly isn't causing him any problems either. Even so, the Brewers are still expected to have Woodruff make another rehab start next Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville, per MLB.com. If all goes well in that outing, Woodruff will likely be cleared to return from the 15-day injured list and slot into the Milwaukee rotation June 8 or 9 for what would be his first MLB appearance since Sept. 23, 2023.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Works four scoreless in rehab start

Woodruff (ankle/shoulder) struck out two and gave up three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Nashville.

Woodruff appeared to have reached the finish line in his recovery from October 2023 capsule surgery on his right shoulder earlier this month after he made the sixth start of his rehab assignment, but he experienced right ankle tendinitis coming out of that outing. The minor injury prompted the Brewers to shut him down for a brief period of time, but after Woodruff threw some simulated innings out of the bullpen last weekend without incident, he was cleared to begin a second rehab assignment. He'll have another 30-day period in the minors to conduct his rehab, but given the brevity of his recent shutdown along with the fact that he tossed 59 pitches Wednesday, Woodruff isn't expected to need that full window to get stretched back out. Woodruff is in line to make at least one more start in the minors, but if he's able to push up his pitch count and escape that outing with no setbacks to his ankle or shoulder, he could be activated from the 15-day injured list in the first week of June.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Embarking on new rehab assignment

Woodruff (ankle) threw multiple simulated innings during a bullpen session Sunday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Woodruff tweaked his right ankle May 11 in what was expected to be the final rehab start in his recovery from 2023 surgery on his throwing shoulder. He tested the ankle Sunday by throwing and doing fielding drills, and he's expected to begin a new rehab assignment Wednesday. Manager Pat Murphy said he expects Woodruff to make at least two rehab starts before being activated from the injured list.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Now dealing with ankle injury

The Brewers returned Woodruff (shoulder) from his rehab assignment Monday, but he remains on the 15-day injured list due to right ankle tendinitis, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The ankle injury popped up prior to what was expected to be Woodruff's final rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. He went only 2.1 innings in that outing, although the team indicated that the abbreviated start was by design. Woodruff had been expected to be activated from the 15-day IL to rejoin the Milwaukee rotation this weekend against the Twins, but the ankle issue could put those plans on hold. Woodruff is coming back from capsule surgery on his right shoulder and has not pitched in an MLB game since September 2023.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Won't be activated this week

Woodruff (shoulder) won't be reinstated from the 15-day injured list this week as initially hoped after experiencing right ankle tendinitis during his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Nashville, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

After he hadn't pitched in the big leagues since September 2023 while recovering from right shoulder surgery, Woodruff looked on track to rejoin the Milwaukee rotation this week after completing his sixth minor-league rehab start over the weekend. However, with Woodruff now battling tendinitis in his ankle, he'll receive treatment over the next week and will then need to make another rehab start before Milwaukee determines whether he's fit to return from the IL or needs more time in the minors.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Excels in short rehab outing

Woodruff (shoulder) gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 2.1 innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Nashville.

After covering at least five innings in each of his previous three rehab outings, Woodruff covered about half of that length Sunday, though the lighter workload was a pre-planned arrangement in what will be his final start of his minor-league assignment, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Woodruff was efficient in the abbreviated outing, spotting 28 of 39 pitches for strikes and giving up a pair of softly hit singles. Woodruff had built up to 83 pitches in his previous start with Nashville on Tuesday, so he should be able to handle something close to a typical starter's workload once he joins the Brewers. Milwaukee is expected to activate Woodruff from the 15-day injured list next weekend to have him start against the Twins at American Family Field in what will be his first big-league outing since Sept. 23, 2023.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Will make one more rehab start

Woodruff (shoulder) will make one more rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Barring any setbacks, Woodruff is expected to make his return to the Brewers' rotation for next weekend's series against the Twins. Woodruff hasn't pitched in the majors since injuring his shoulder in September 2023. In addition to Woodruff, the Brewers also appear close to getting Aaron Civale (hamstring) back from the injured list after he tossed four scoreless innings in a rehab start Thursday.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Nearing return to majors

Woodruff (shoulder) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six in his latest rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Making the fifth start of his rehab assignment, Woodruff built up to 83 pitches (60 strikes) and displayed a fastball that topped out at 94.4 miles per hour. He's in the final stages of his recovery from September 2023 right shoulder capsule surgery, which kept him out for the entire 2024 season. Per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Woodruff will either make one more rehab start with Nashville or return from the 15-day injured list to make his 2025 debut with the Brewers, which would likely fall next week in Cleveland.
