  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Resumes throwing program

Tinoco (forearm) resumed a throwing program Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Tinoco has missed much of June with a right forearm strain but has been cleared to play catch. The right-handed reliever will likely require a rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Goes on IL with forearm strain

The Marlins placed Tinoco on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right forearm strain. Tinoco didn't strike out a single batted over his last five appearances and had been deployed in low-leverage situations lately, so it's possible he's been hurt for a while. Per Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com, an MRI on Tinoco's forearm didn't reveal any structural damage, but it's not clear how long he might be shelved.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Used in sixth inning Monday

Tinoco gave up one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings to record his fourth hold of the season during Monday's extra-innings loss to the Padres. While it was an effective performance that saw Tinoco fire 13 of 17 pitches for strikes, the right-hander was a long way from closing duties as he entered the game to get the final out of the sixth inning. Tinoco has blown two of his last four saves chances while staggering to an 8.68 ERA in 9.1 innings over his last 10 appearances, and Ronny Henriquez -- who picked up his first career save Sunday -- appears to have emerged as the Marlins' top high-leverage arm.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Bounces back with perfect inning

Tinoco picked up the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Cubs, throwing a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout. Tinoco blew a save Tuesday night, but he retook the mound Wednesday for the ninth frame with the Marlins leading 3-1 and fired a perfect inning. He retired Carson Kelly, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Nico Hoerner in order. In 14 appearances, Tinoco has a 4.61 ERA and a 9:6 K:BB over 13.2 innings while leading the Marlins with four saves, though Calvin Faucher is also in the mix at closer.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Blows save Tuesday

Tinoco (2-1) blew his first save of the season and took the loss Tuesday as the Marlins fell 5-4 to the Cubs, recording just one out in the ninth inning. He was charged with three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk. A Xavier Edwards error put the leadoff hitter aboard in the ninth for the Cubs, and Tinoco was never able to regain his focus before eventually serving up a walk-off double to Justin Turner. The Marlins' closing picture remains a mess, but Tinoco leads the team with three saves, although chances have been few and far between of late with Miami in a 3-13 tailspin. On the season, the 30-year-old right-hander carries a 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB through 12.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Picks up save Monday

Tinoco threw a perfect inning and earned his second save of the season against the Reds on Monday. Tinoco had no trouble retiring Cincinnati's 7-8-9 hitters in order to close out the 6-3 victory. He threw nine of 11 pitches for strikes to earn his second save in as many days. Tinoco has delivered four straight scoreless innings after coughing up two runs April 12 in his first appearance after a stint on the injured list. Clayton McCullough has shown signs early in his first season as Marlins manager that he's willing to ride the hot hand as his closer, so Tinoco could get more save chances ahead of Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender in the short term.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Reinstated off IL

The Marlins reinstated Tinoco (back) from the 15-day injured list Saturday. After picking up the Opening Day win against the Pirates, Tinoco was placed on the 15-day IL on March 30 due to a left lower-back strain. He began throwing off a mound in late April, and the 28-year-old right-hander has progressed enough in his recovery to return to the big club. Tinico appeared in 32 regular-season games between the Rangers, Cubs and Marlins in 2024 and logged a 3.32 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, three saves and a 42:12 K:BB across 40.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Throws off mound

Tinoco (back) threw a bullpen session Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. A back strain sent Tinoco to the injured list Sunday, but he is now back to throwing off a mound just a few days later. His progress is a good sign that he may be able to return when eligible April 12, though the Marlins haven't committed to that date just yet.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Out with back strain

Miami placed Tinoco on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a left lower-back strain. The right-hander picked up the win Opening Day with a scoreless frame. He'll be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks due to the back issue, but it's unclear how long Tinoco might be sidelined. Calvin Faucher remains the favorite to see ninth-inning work for the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Picks up Opening Day win

Tinoco (1-0) was credited with the win for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh. He allowed one one walk and one hit while striking out a batter across one scoreless frame. The 29-year-old right-hander was called from the bullpen for the top of the ninth inning, and after giving up a double and walk to Tommy Pham and Bryan Reynolds, respectively, Tinoco managed to escape the frame by striking out Joey Bart. It's worth noting that Tinoco got the call for the top of the ninth in a tie game instead of Calvin Faucher, suggesting the latter was being reserved for a potential save situation Friday.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: In saves mix heading into camp

Tinoco will compete with Calvin Faucher for the Marlins' closer job this spring, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Faucher took over the job last August and proceeded to convert six straight save chances before blowing one against the Nationals on Sept. 4 and subsequently landing on the IL with a shoulder impingement that ended his season. In his absence, Tinoco got a look in the ninth inning and performed fairly well, going 3-for-4 in his September save chances with a 2.61 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB over 10.1 innings. Faucher will likely get the first chance to secure the role, but if he stumbles early, Tinoco figures to be the next man up once again. Southpaw Andrew Nardi (elbow) could also be in the saves mix if he shows that he's healthy and can regain his 2023 form.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Hit with first blown save

Tinoco was charged with a blown save in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Twins, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings while striking out one. Tinoco took over for Anthony Bender with one out and a man on first in the bottom of the eighth and coughed up back-to-back hits to allow two runners to come home, tying the game at 4-4. He was then able to get through the frame without sustaining any further damage before pitching a scoreless ninth. It marked the right-hander's first blown save this season after converting his previous three opportunities this month. It also marked the second time in his last five appearances that he allowed three hits and at least one run. On a positive note, Tinoco has recorded at least one strikeout in three straight outings.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Earns save Friday

Tinoco threw a perfect inning and picked up a save against Atlanta on Friday. Tinoco needed just eight pitches (six strikes) to retire Atlanta's 9-1-2 hitters and close out a 4-3 win. It was his second save of the season and both have come during his last three appearances. Tinoco dropped his season ERA to 3.47 with a 39:11 K:BB through 36.1 innings.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Grabs second career save

Tinoco got the save in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Nationals. He pitched two innings without allowing a run or a hit and striking out two. Tinoco entered the game in the eighth inning with a two-run lead and proceeded to retire all six batters he faced to record his first save since 2019, when he was a member of the Rockies. The right-hander is pitching for his third team this season but seems to have found a home in Miami, as he has a 1.33 ERA and 0.54 WHIP in 20.1 innings since joining the Marlins. The 29-year-old has a chance at being the closer for the Marlins down the stretch with Calvin Faucher (shoulder) and John McMillon (elbow) on the injured list.

  • Marlins' Jesus Tinoco: Dominating with new team

Tinoco has turned in a 1.47 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB while collecting one win and five holds over 18.1 innings across 15 appearances out of the bullpen since the Marlins claimed him off waivers from the Cubs on July 30. Tabbed to fill one of the openings in the bullpen that was created by the Marlins' fire sale ahead of the trade deadline, Tinoco has arguably performed better with Miami than any of the relievers (Tanner Scott, Bryan Hoeing, A.J. Puk, Huascar Brazoban and JT Chargois) that were dealt away. A 29-year-old journeyman who owns a modest 3.82 ERA over 74 career MLB appearances, Tinoco attributes part of his newfound success in Miami to his increased usage of a slider that he revamped while pitching overseas in Japan in 2023, per Kevin Barral of FishOnFirst.com. Tinoco has quickly moved into a high-leverage role out of the Marlins bullpen, and he could now get a chance to pick up saves down the stretch after incumbent closer Calvin Faucher (shoulder) landed on the injured list Saturday. John McMillon and Anthony Bender loom as potential challengers for closing duties.

  • Cubs' Jesus Tinoco: Booted from 40-man roster

The Cubs designated Tinoco for assignment Saturday. Tinoco was traded to the Cubs on July 16 and threw four scoreless innings in relief for Chicago, but he'll yield his spots on the active 40-man rosters to make room for the recently acquired Nate Pearson. Assuming he clears waivers, Tinoco should remain in the Cubs organization.

  • Jesus Tinoco: Elects free agency

Tinoco elected free agency after being outrighted by the Rangers on Thursday. Tinoco had his contract selected May 23 but allowed nine earned runs across 10 innings and was designated for assignment Sunday. He was more effective with the Rangers in 2023 with a 2.18 ERA in 17 outings, so he may be able to find a role with another club.

  • Rangers' Jesus Tinoco: Bumped from 40-man roster

Tinoco was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Sunday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Cole Winn was summoned to replace Tinoco, who will now be subjected to waivers. Tinoco did himself no favors with multiple walks in each of his final three appearances before this move. The 29-year-old righty has posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 76.2 career innings over parts of five big-league seasons.

  • Rangers' Jesus Tinoco: Added to roster

The Rangers selected Tinoco's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Tinoco, 29, has posted a 3.80 ERA and 27:10 K:BB over 21.1 innings this season with Round Rock. The reliever hasn't appeared in a game at the major-league level since 2022, when he collected a 2.18 ERA in 17 appearances with Texas.

  • Rangers' Jesus Tinoco: Back with Rangers

Tinoco signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Tinoco held a 2.18 ERA and 18:10 K:BB over 20.2 innings for the Rangers in 2022 before heading overseas in 2023 to pitch for the Seibu Lions of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball. The 28-year-old seems likely to begin 2024 at Triple-A Round Rock.
