Contreras went 4-for-8 with two doubles, one walk, four RBI and two runs scored as the Cardinals split Thursday's doubleheader versus the Royals.
Contreras hadn't posted a multi-hit effort since May 16, which was coincidentally also against the Royals. He's hit safely in six straight games, including logging a double in four of them. For the season, the 33-year-old is at a .250/.328/.391 slash line with six home runs, 36 RBI, 28 runs scored, 13 doubles and two stolen bases over 58 games.

Contreras went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, one walk and one run scored in Saturday's victory over the Rangers.
He contributed to both runs in Saturday's victory, scoring on a Nolan Arenado sacrifice fly in the second inning and later driving in Masyn Winn with a ground-rule double in the fourth. Contreras has been slumping at the plate, slashing .224/.270/.345 over his past 15 games. The 33-year-old's power has noticeably declined in 2025, with his current .379 slugging percentage well below his career mark of .456. Despite a solid overall start to the season, the Cardinals would certainly benefit from Contreras rediscovering his power stroke.

Contreras (back) is in the lineup for Monday's game against Orioles, starting at first base and batting cleanup.
A bout of back spasms kept Contreras out of the starting lineup for all three games over the weekend, but he reported improvement Sunday and is evidently feeling well to play in the series opener in Baltimore against right-hander Charlie Morton. The 33-year-old Contreras has six homers this year but has not produced to his usual levels so far, posting a .729 OPS through 49 games, matching his career low.

Contreras (back) may return to the Cardinals' lineup Monday versus the Orioles, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Contreras was once again sidelined for Sunday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks, missing his third straight game with back spasms. Manager Oli Marmol said following the contest that the catcher is doing "better" and that he hopes Contreras will start Monday's series opener in Baltimore. Considering Contreras was able to move around the field and take batting practice Sunday, he appears to be on track for a return to the lineup in the near future.

Manager Oliver Marmol previously indicated that Contreras was expected to play Sunday, but the 33-year-old will instead sit for a third straight game due to back spasms. According to John Denton of MLB.com, Contreras seemed to be moving around on the field prior to Sunday's game and was able to take some swings in the batting page, so the Cardinals are still seemingly viewing him as day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Baltimore.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol is weighing the possibility of moving the slumping Contreras down in the batting order, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Contreras has gotten off to a dreadful start this season, going 5-for-49 with 22 strikeouts, and he's done so while mostly batting second for St. Louis. The 32-year-old is a good bet to eventually get going offensively, but it's possible he'll be moved to a lower profile spot in the batting order while he's scuffling. If Marmol wants to continue alternating his lefty and righty hitters, Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn would appear to be the most likely candidates to be elevated to the No. 2 spot, if Contreras is indeed dropped lower in the lineup.

Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Will not move back to catcher
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Contreras is not a candidate to move back to catcher in the wake of the Ivan Herrera (knee) injury, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Contreras will be available as an emergency third catcher, but he is set to remain the team's primary first baseman. Pedro Pages will receive the bulk of the reps at catcher for St. Louis while Herrera is out, and Yohel Pozo has been called up to serve as Pages' understudy.
